Mustangs grab season first LSC victory with 6-1 win over DBU

ARLINGTON, Texas – Midwestern State rolled to a 6-1 win over Dallas Baptist in its Lone Star Conference opener Friday afternoon at the Arlington Tennis Center.

Anda Ghinga and Emilija Visic got things rolling with a 6-0 shutout of Ira Vogelmann and Leslie Omeire at the second doubles line. The Ghinga/Visic pair have only lost one doubles match, which was against No. 10 Flagler. Tiffany Hollebeck and Casie Curry gained a seven set win streak with their victory over Kate Daugherty and Taylor Leslie. The first doubles line went 6-4 in Midwestern State's favor.

In the second time the two competed together, Ethne Dowling and Kyndall Quiroz dropped their three doubles battle against Sarah Castleberry and Adrianna Carpenter, 5-7. Fortunately, the Mustangs already clutched the point and moved on to singles play up by one.

Ghinga added to her four-match win streak with her outlast of Leslie at number two singles. The freshman took both sets 6-2 to give MSU a 2-0 lead.
Skylar Minns followed up with her own win. She overcame Devon-Austin Canning 6-2, 6-3 at number six singles. With this win, Midwestern State led 3-0 over the Lady Patriots.

The run continued with Quiroz gaining her first singles win of the season. The San Antonio native won 6-2, 6-3 at five singles over Omeire. The Mustangs gained four straight unanswered points with only three more up for grabs.

Visic added another to the total with her 6-3, 6-1 victory over Voglemann at the fourth singles line. The freshman has a 1-3 record when playing in the fourth spot.

Hollebeck was the first on the team to defeat a nationally ranked opponent when she took down no. 22 Daugherty. The MSU senior won the first set 6-2, while the DBU junior had the second, 6-4. Hollebeck secured the win and point with her third set 10-5 super tiebreak win. The score sat at 6-1 for Midwestern State with only one more group to finish.

Dallas Baptist captured their lone win when Carpenter defeated No. 43 Curry 6-4 in both sets of their number three singles battle.
