ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 20-ranked Midwestern State gained its fourth sweep of the season taking down Dallas Baptist in its Lone Star Conference opener.
Angel Palacios and
Ben Westwick started the team on the right foot. The pair took the second doubles line 6-1 against Will Fiala and Grank McKenzie for their fourth win.
Brice Bradshaw and
Quentin Scharfenberg followed up with a 6-1 win over Hunter Terrell and Joshua Ramos.
Alex Martinez Roca and
Alexandre Crepy put the nail in the coffin and grabbed the doubles point for Midwestern State. Martinez Roca and Crepy overtook Josh Williams and Gabe Garrido 6-1 at the first doubles spot.
Scharfenberg continued the rally with his win at six singles. The redshirt freshman pulled out a 6-1, 6-1 win over Andrew Dayman. The Mustangs pushed the lead to 2-0.
No. 5 Palacios won his seventh straight singles match playing in the third singles line. He has won eight of the last ten. The Piedras Negras, Mexico native took 6-1, 6-1 over Terrell. The score now sat at 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
Bradshaw grabbed his second singles win on Friday. He managed a 6-0 sweep of Ramos at number five singles and put the Mustangs on the board with four points.
Crepy took his seventh singles win over Williams at four singles. The freshman had the first set 6-1 and the second was 6-2. Two more battles ensured for Midwestern State as they reach their fifth point.
Westwick continued the work at the second singles line. The Houston, Texas, sophomore overcame Garrido 6-4, 6-1. Martinez Roca took the sixth and final point for MSU with his 7-5, 6-1 win against McKenzie. The junior's record at the first singles spot sits at 5-3.
Midwestern State (6-4) battles Cameron on Friday afternoon at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex in Lawton, Okla. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
