Mustangs Puff Home Record to 8-0 with W over Hilltoppers

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Mustangs powered through a tough St. Edward's side in a 74-67 home victory at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Monday night win puts the squad at an eight game win streak at home, starting last February against UT Tyler.

Five different players for MSU scored in double points with Haevyn Risely gaining a double double with 14 rebounds. The senior guard scored 15 for the Mustangs, going seven for ten from within the arc.

The match-up between the Midwestern State (9-4, 9-4 LSC) and St. Edward's (5-8, 5-8 LSC) was a testament from the get-go. Junior guard Christina Mason put up 12 points in the first half for the Hilltoppers.

Freshman forward Brittney Fields challenged with ten of her own, going four of five on field goals and two for two on free throws. She finished with 12 points and two rebounds. Still the Mustangs trailed most of the first two quarters. The teams went into halftime with SEU up by four.

The tides turned as shots started falling for the home squad. Senior guard Morgan Lenahan propelled Midwestern State in the second with nine points and five assists. She totaled 13 points, six rebounds, and eight assists for the night – so close to a triple double.

The Hilltopper's Charli Becker kept them close with her nine points in the second half. The sophomore guard ended with 13 total points.

What made the difference for the Mustangs was converting points off St. Edward's turnovers. The home team garnered 17 points from SEU's 19 turnovers. The visitors could only get eight points from giveaways.

Francis King and Hannah Reynolds both added ten points to MSU's final score. King handed out four assists and Reynolds grabbed two blocks.

The Mustangs shot 70 percent from the line and 46 percent from the floor. Their defense held SEU to shooting 38 percent for field goals and 30 percent for threes.
