LUBBOCK, Texas – Midwestern State struggled to hit the ball and go on the offensive in their second loss in the Lubbock Sports College Invitational. The fell 10-0 against Newman (Kan.) on Saturday at Lubbock Christian School.
Anissa Ramos and Paige Wallace started the game for the Jets with a single each and scored off of a Kaitlyn Praught single to right center.
Carsen Solis singled down the right field line for the Mustangs, the first of her two hits for the game. Her average now lies at .556 for the season. The first baseman has multiple hits in 7 of her 20 career games.
Newman collected two more runs in the second.
Jacey Henry came in to pitch for the second time this season. The first being against Washburn (Kan.) on Friday when she pitched 5.2 innings with six runs off of ten hits.
The teams battled through the third inning without any runs.
Newman had a big fourth with five runs off of six hits.
Kathryn Wells came in to pitch in her first game of the 2021 season. She pitched for 2.5 innings and had two runs off of six hits.
Mattye Tyler singled down the left field line in the bottom of the fourth, her only hit of the game.
Bailey Brenek was also able to reach base on a fielder's choice.
The Jets added the last run in the fifth with a single by Praught.
Solis singled to left field for her second hit of the game. Unfortunately, the Mustangs were unable to make up in the bottom of the fifth.
MSU takes on Fort Hays State and attempts .500 in the last game of the Lubbock Sports College Invitational. Start time is slated for Saturday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m.
