LUBBOCK, Texas -- Brooke Taylor roped a double to the left-field gap and came around to plate the winning run in a 4-3 win over Fort Hays State Saturday in the finale of the Lubbock Sports College Invitational at Plains Capital Field.
The Mustangs then stranded the tying run on third base to finish with a split of their four games during weekend tournament play.
MSU took advantage of miscues by Fort Hays State scoring a run off of a throwing error in the fourth inning, then
Ashley Turner added another run off of a wild pitch in the fifth.
Fort Hays State scratched for single runs in the fourth and sixth frames.
Hannah Gates took advantage on a throwing errors in the fourth to score on Lexi Kagan's bunt single in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
The Tigers knotted the game again in the sixth when Sarah Tiffany ripped an RBI triple to the right-field fence to make it 2-2.
Midwestern State loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh, but failed to score setting the stage for Taylor's heroics.
Sophomore
Carson Solis logged two hits for the third time in four games to improve her season average to .500, while sophomore
Ashley Turner also went 2-for-5 with a double to pace the Mustangs.
Freshman
Addi Hanna earned her first collegiate win in the circle allowing an unearned run on one hit in 1 2/3 innings in relief of starter
Kaitlyn Turner, who permitted one earned run on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Tiffany led the Tigers by going 3-for-5 with an RBI triple at the plate as FHSU dropped to 1-3.
Midwestern State is slated to open the MSU Invitational against Northwestern Oklahoma State Thursday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
