Mustangs Succumb 1-0 to UMHB in the Preseason Opener

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State soccer team could not start the preseason off on the right foot on Saturday evening at Stang Park. They fell 0-1 to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in their first game of 2021.

The Mustangs were on the ball for the first half. They outshot the Crusaders seven to five with Marc-Antoine Huzen making three saves in the net. Each team had only three corners in the first half.

Victor Rubio Lopez led MSU with three shots in the first half. Mary-Hardin Baylor's Brody Conley had two.

The second half struck misfortune when UMHB was able to capitalize off a miskicked pass. Patrick Roach chipped Huzen and found the lower corner of the net only 19 seconds into the half.

The Mustangs were not discouraged and fought to find the equalizer. Again, they outshot the Crusaders 9-6 in the second half. Erwin Regules had five shots with two on goal.

MSU totaled sixteen shots on the night with seven on frame. Mary-Hardin Baylor shot 11 with five on frame.

Israel Gonzalez split time in goal with 44 minutes. UMHB keeper, Ethan Rimbey, made six saves on the night.

Midwestern State returns to play with a scrimmage against Southern Nazarene at Stang Park on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Kick-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
