Mustangs Bounce Back at Oklahoma Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Midwestern State Women's Basketball team made history Friday night as they defeated Oklahoma Christian 67-60 at Payne Athletic Center for the first time. The all-time series is now at 7-8 with the Eagles only one game ahead.

The Mustangs started the game off strong with a 10-2 run over the Eagles, including a pair of three-pointers by sophomore guard Sheridan Bostic. The lead was back and forth throughout the first quarter with OCU on top 21-18 at the end.

Freshman forward Brittney Fields opened the second with two baskets of her own. She recorded two rebounds for the game as well. Sophomore forward Mandy Withey returned to the lineup today after being out from injury since early January. She scored her first basket since playing Texas A&M Commerce at home.

Sophomore guard Frances King was second in scoring for the Mustangs with 12 points, with three of 12 in the second quarter. She led MSU in assists with four and added three rebounds.

Both teams went into halftime neck in neck with Midwestern trailing by only one point (35-36). Defense was tight for the first five minutes of the third, with neither team scoring until 5:33. After that, MSU went off, led by senior guard Morgan Lenahan who led the visitors in scoring and rebounding and grabbed a double double. She put down seven of her 15 points in the third quarter and totaled ten boards for the game.

The Mustangs pulled ahead at the end of the third behind buckets from senior forwards Kityana Diaz and Hannah Reynolds. The two had seven and 11 game points, respectively.

MSU was able to take the game in the fourth, gaining a 15-point lead at one point. Senior guard Haevyn Risely contributed six points and eight rebounds while junior forward Shawnisay Millar was good for four points and two rebounds.

Midwestern State goes for the sweep at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, Feb. 6., at Payne Athletic Center at 6 p.m.
