EDMOND, Okla. – The last day of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships ended early for no. 16 Midwestern State in the 7th place game against no. 6 Columbus State. On Sunday, Feb. 28, at Edmond Center Court, the Mustangs grabbed a point but eventually fell 1-4.
The team finishes 8th in the three-day tournament as first time contenders.
The doubles side was the best showing for MSU with gaining victory at number one and two doubles.
Tiffany Hollebeck and
Casie Curry took over 6-1 against Beatriz Lopez and Yelena Labat. After dropping their first match against the University of Indianapolis, Hollebeck and Curry won two straight against Flagler and CSU.
Emilija Visic and
Anda Ghinga pulled through versus Valentina Abrile and Sara Ramirez at 6-4. The pair also went 2-1 on the weekend with their first win unfished against Indianapolis.
Columbus State took number three doubles with Amanda Citre and Luise Sachs overcoming
Ethne Dowling and
Skylar Minns 6-4.
The Cougars took over once singles started, claiming the win at number two, four, five, and six. However, the unfinished matches for the Mustangs were on the right side. Hollebeck took a set from no. 17 Lopez (4-6, 6-2, 0-1). No. 43 Curry also took a set from Abrile, with the third set tied at the end (6-4, 3-6, 2-2).
Ghinga fell to no. 10 Sachs 4-6, 3-6 while Ramirez downed Visic by 6-4, 7-5. Labat won over Dowling 7-6, 6-2.
Lily Deatherage made her first appearance for MSU and faced Citre at no. six singles. Citre won out 6-1, 6-1.

The Mustangs will search for their first win against Southeastern Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist on Friday, March 5. The match against Southeastern is set for 1 p.m. and Oklahoma Baptist will start at 5 p.m. at MSU Tennis Center.
