EDMOND, Okla. – Midwestern State opened the first day of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Friday, Feb. 26, against the University of Indianapolis. The team fell 4-0 to Indy in the opening round of the tournament.
In doubles,
Tiffany Hollebeck and Cassie Curry dropped to Nikol Alekeeva and Anna Novikova, the number three ranked doubles team in the nation, in the first doubles match-up. The set went 6-2 for the first point to the Greyhounds.
Sofia Sharonova and Mariia Sholnyshkina defeated
Ethne Dowling and
Skylar Minns at number three doubles 6-1. This is Minns and Dowling first match as doubles partners this season.
Emilija Visic and
Anda Ghinga paired together for another fight, this time against Alina Kislitskaya and Kristina Lagoda. The match was unfinished but Visic and Ghinga were on top 5-1.
On the singles side, Hollebeck fell 6-0, 6-2 to Alekseeva, the number two singles player in the country.
Number three singles saw Curry and Kislitskaya, number 20 in the nation, play to a 6-2, 6-4 win in favor of U Indy.
Minns versed Sholnyshkina at number five singles and dropped 6-1, 6-1. This brought the full match to 4-0 and University of Indianapolis found the victory.
The three unfinished singles groups included Ghinga against Novikova at second singles and a 4-6, 2-3 end. Singles four was Visic versus Lagoda at 2-6, 1-2. The last match was Dowling and Sharonova at 6-4, 1-4 for the Mustangs closest victory of the night.
