Midwestern State falls in five sets to UAFS

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State played close to the visiting University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, pushing to five sets. The Mustangs push to a last second 3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 10-15) home fall versus UAFS. MSU dropped to 3-21 overall and 1-15 Lone Star Conference records with one match left in the regular season.

"We played a solid first and fourth sets and battled back from being down 1-2," MSU coach Valerie Armstrong said. "I was proud of the team for their effort to battle back to force the fifth set."

Willms posted her name in MSU's individual match records with six service aces. The setter has 27 aces this season to rank ninth in the LSC. Willms added 21 assists and nine digs against the Lady Lions. Autumn Roach posted 33 assists as the second counterpart in the 6-2 rotation. She completed one service ace and 17 digs.

Amy DeWalt led both teams with 32 digs, a season-high for the freshman. The San Antonio, Texas native posted a service ace to help the Mustangs to their top serving match of the season. Lissette Lefforge throws in three aces of her own. The senior tallied 15 points from 11 kills and two blocks.

Freshman Alex Serna topped Midwestern State with 12 kills. The freshman owns 56 kills in her first year at MSU. Kelli Ell and Kaitlynn Stoker each completed 11 smack downs to push the team to 59 total.

UAFS' Reagan Macha was the top hitter for both teams with 15 kills, while Chloe Anderson closed with 38 assists. As a team, the Lions posted a .220 hitting percentage.

Midwestern State takes on Cameron in the season finale Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
