WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Trevor Amann and
Mere Escobar provided Midwestern State with a one-two scoring punch all season long.
The duo combined for 27 goals while helping the Mustangs to a regular and postseason Lone Star Conference championship on the way to an eighth straight NCAA postseason appearance.
The season-long performance landed both forwards a spot on the D2CCA All-South Central Region's first team along with senior midfielder
James Doyle, while junior goalkeeper Marc Antoine-Huzen earned second-team honors.
Amann also became the third Midwestern State player to earn South Central Region Player of the Year honors joining forward Daniel Brown in 2007 and goalkeeper Raul Herrera in 2010.
Amann, a two-time Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, set career highs with 16 goals and six assists ranking 11th in NCAA Division II scoring 0.84 goals per match and was ninth in the nation with two points per game.
The Westminster, Colo. native earned first-team all-conference honors in four of his five collegiate seasons spending her first two campaign at Colorado School of Mines. He was a second-team All-South Central Region performer as a sophomore in 2017 for the Orediggers finishing with eight goals and two assists.
Amann was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2016 ending season with 13 goals.
Amann closed his collegiate career ranked third on the NCAA Division II active career leader list with 49 goals and in total points with 117. He also dished out 19 assists in 89 career matches.
Escobar, a sophomore with three seasons of eligibility remaining, ranked third in the LSC with 11 goals, second with 27 points and fifth with five assists.Â
The consistent performer accounted for points in 12 of MSU's 19 matches this season to earn first-team All-LSC honors. He was also voted the league's top freshman in the spring accounting for five goals in 11 matches.
Doyle gained second-team all-region honors for the second time as a collegian.
The LSC Midfielder and Newcomer of the Year accounted for six goals and four assists over 18 starts. His versatility allowed the Mustangs to play him anywhere on the pitch during the team's title run.
The graduate transfer also enjoyed a stellar stint at Northeastern State, where he garnered first-team All-Central Region accolades from the United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA as a junior in 2019.
The three-time All-MIAA/GAC performer accounted for 24 goals and nine assists during his collegiate career.
Huzen earned second-team all-region honors following a brilliant campaign between the posts.
The LSC Goalkeeper of the Year ranked second in the conference and eighth in NCAA Division II with eight shutouts. He was also second in the league and 44th nationally with a 0.980 goals against average.
The native of Paris, France earned LSC Postseason Tournament MVP honors after allowing one goal in 200 regulation minutes before making two saves in penalty kicks (one was disallowed) to lead the Mustangs to the tournament title.Â
Huzen boasts a 22-3-2 record in 27 career matches with the Mustangs.
Midwestern State closed the 2021 campaign with a 16-3-1 record advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship.
