Lenahan second half surge pushes Mustangs past Adams State 67-65

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Senior Morgan Lenahan notched 18 points on the night, putting 12 away in the second half to propel Midwestern State to a 67-65 victory over Adams State in the final day of the Ashbrook Classic at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. With the Saturday night victory, the Mustangs notch a 2-0 record for the start of the 2021-22 season.

The Grizzlies closely matched the Mustangs, with neither team leading by more than six until MSU took a 33-25 lead going into half.

Sophomore Frances King and senior Hannah Reynolds both put up nine points in the first half and finished with 15. King went 5-10 from the field and shot 100% from the line. Reynolds completed her first double-double of the season with eleven boards and added one block on the night.

Adams State cut the lead to just two with 8:33 left to play in the game. It was back-and-forth for the two teams until Lenahan secured the match with the final four points. The Mustangs shot just under .500 from the floor while the Grizzles took home 40 percent of their field goals.

Junior Shawnisay Millar collected eight rebounds and recorded nine points while sophomore Markayla Johnson concluded the game with eight points. Yasmine Sifaoui dumped in layup for two points on the night.

Elaina Watson came off the bench to pace Adams State with 15 points while Kayla Harris put up 12.

Midwestern State takes the road for the first time this season, heading to Lawton, Okla., to face Lone Star Conference foe, Cameron University. The Tuesday, Nov. 16 game tips off at 5:30 p.m. in Aggie Gym.
