Millar leads Midwestern State in 91-71 loss at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. --  Shawnisay Millar posted her strongest performance of the season Tuesday night at Aggie Gym, but it wasn't enough for Midwestern State to overcome a sloppy performance in a 91-71 loss to Cameron.

The junior from Prestonpans, Scotland was the bright spot for the Mustangs scoring 15 points and grabbing seven rebounds, but the Aggies turned 33 MSU turnovers into 26 points to remain unbeaten at 3-0.

"When you give them more opportunities to shoot, it puts pressure on your offense," MSU coach Christopher Reay said. "That is us maturing as a unit and dealing with our first road test of the season."

Cameron took control of the game with a 13-3 run late in the second period as the Aggies buried three 3-pointers in the final 66 seconds including two by freshman Katie King and another by Stephanie Peterson to push out to a 42-28 advantage at halftime.

Peterson, a sophomore from Broomfield, Colo., connected on 11 of her 14 shots from the field to finish with a game-high 26 points. She pulled down nine rebounds to go along with five steals and four assists.

Cameron led by as many as 26 points in the second half with all five of its starters landing in double figures. Maighan Hedge finished with 19 points and seven assists followed by Korie Allensworth with 12, King with 11 and Whitney Outen with 10.

Midwestern State enjoyed a solid shooting night hitting 50.8 percent from the floor with the Mustangs' bench limited to eight players due to illness.

Sophomore Frances King delivered her third consecutive double-figure performance going for 13 points, six assists and five rebounds, while senior Hannah Reynolds added 12 points, four rebounds and four blocked shots.

Sophomore Yasmine Sifaoui scored 10 points and snared five rebounds off of the bench.

"This was a good test for us to start the season on the road," Reay said. "We are definitely looking forward to taking another crack at Cameron."

Midwestern State continues on the road next Tuesday at Oklahoma Baptist. Tipoff at Noble Complex in Shawnee is set for 7 p.m.
