OKLAHOMA CITY -- Midwestern State dominated possession throughout the second half and both sessions of overtime Wednesday night at Eagle Soccer Field.
But the Mustangs had to endure two excellence chances from Oklahoma Christian's Kyla Lovelace to earn a scoreless draw.
"Possession was good, but our movement wasn't good. Our end result was always off. We weren't very clinical today," MSU coach
Ryan Spence said. "Keeping them off the ball was key. The good thing is we have a game in three days."
Lovelace blasted a shot off of the crossbar from 20 yards out in the 107th minute, then was unable to put a shot on frame after the Eagles earned a free kick at the top of the box in the closing seconds of the second overtime frame.
"They won a flick over our head and we were a little delayed on our second movement, so we fouled when we shouldn't have," Spence said. "They did well on their set pieces and long throws. We didn't allow too many good chances from the long throws and the free kicks we gave up."
Senior goalkeeper
Taylor Camp made four saves to earn her third consecutive clean sheet and her fifth shutout of the season. The Waxahachie native lowered her goals against average to 0.52.
"Taylor did well. She has been more consistent and talking more," Spence said. "Her distribution was good and she has been pretty consistent. She has been a bright spot."
Sophomore forward
Cassidy Savoy provided MSU with its best scoring chance of the game in the 64th minute, but her blast bound for the upper portion of the net was cleared over the bar Oklahoma Christian goalkeeper Gabby Goddard.
It was one of eight saves for Goddard, who earned her third shutout of the campaign.
Midwestern State's apparent game winner in the 90th minute was nullified by an offside call and
Valentina Carvajal's serve into the box off of a free kick from 20 yards out in the closing seconds of regulation was too strong.
With the draw, the Mustangs extend their unbeaten streak to six matches while moving to 5-2-2 on the season. MSU 2-0-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
Oklahoma Christian, which has scored three total goals this season, moved to 1-4-3 and 1-1-3.
Midwestern State battles Texas A&M International Saturday afternoon at Stang Park. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.Â
