WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State slipped nine spots to No. 20 in the latest American Football Coaches' Association Division II Top 25 released Monday afternoon.
The Mustangs (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season in a 30-20 setback at Central Washington Saturday night in Ellensburg.
MSU is one of eight teams from Super Region Four to receive mention in the poll joining No. 5 Colorado School of Mines, No. 11 Minnesota State and No. 19 Minnesota Duluth.
Western Colorado, Angelo State, Colorado State-Pueblo and Wayne State (Neb.) are receiving votes.
The top five remained unchanged for the fifth straight week as West Florida, the unanimous No. 1, improved to 4-0 with a 39-33 win over Delta State (Miss.), while No. 2 Northwest Missouri State (4-0) ripped rival Missouri Western, 30-7.
No. 3 Ferris State (Mich.) rolled to 5-0 with a 67-25 win over Northwood (Mich.), while No. 4 Valdosta State (Ga.) defeated Shorter (Ga.) 49-13 to move to 4-0.
No. 5 Colorado School of Mines survived upstart Western Colorado 20-14 in overtime.
Midwestern State battles Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
