AUSTIN, Texas -- Alex Serna posts a season-best 0.500 hitting percent with eight kills in Midwestern State's 0-3 fall to St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs find themselves holding a 3-19 record while going 1-13 in Lone Star Conference play after completing their last road trip of the regular season.
The freshman earned 9.5 points to lead MSU in their final match of the weekend, including three block assists at the net. Serna produced 102 total kills and 29 blocks for 113 points in her first year as a Mustang.
Lauryn Bourne sat close behind the middle blocker with nine points on a team-high nine smashes. The sophomore was close to grabbing her eighth double-double as she notched nine defensive digs as well.
Amy DeWalt led Midwestern State with 13 passes to gain 307 digs in 81 sets of her freshman season.
Taylor Anderson and
Kaitlynn Stoker each claimed 7.5 points on the afternoon match. Anderson snatched seven smack downs and a block assist while Stoker donned six kills and three blocks. Stoker donned 156 kills over 79 sets for the Mustangs and Anderson controlled 135 put downs to sit fourth in line of the team.
Autumn Roach reached a double-double performance with 18 assists and ten digs. The sophomore snagged a big milestone in accounting over 400 helpers for the fall season.
Regan Willms tallied 14 assists and collected nine digs. The freshman is close to gaining 300 sets for the year, sitting currently at 294.
Kaitlyn Krafka had an impressive afternoon with 17 kills in 33 attacks for 18 points for St. Edward's. Emily Tran connected on 36 assists while Sarah Konovodoff made 17 digs. Jillienne Connell made five stops at the net and added four kills to the stat sheet.
The Hilltoppers outblocked the Mustangs 8-4 though MSU only had two service errors while SEU made five. MSU gained 39 kills, but allowed 15 attack errors and SEU took 47 kills and six errors.
Midwestern State runs out the remainder of the 2021 season at home in Wichita Falls, Texas. The team's last Lone Star Conference series starts on Friday, Nov. 5, against Oklahoma Christian. The two teams battle at D.L. Ligon Coliseum with first serve set for 6 p.m.
