Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Regina Bolin

Escobar's last minute brace lifts Mustangs over Patriots, 2-1

DALLAS, Texas -- Mere Escobar worked his goal-scoring magic to put two past Dallas Baptist in the final ten minutes of regulation to secure Midwestern State's 2-1 victory on the road. The Mustangs sit at 14-1 for the season while maintaining a perfect 6-0 Lone Star Conference record.

The first half did not see any score though both teams had a few chances. Mere Escobar was closest for the Mustangs when he banged one of the post in the 35th minute. The forward and Trevor Amann each tried twice at goal to lead the Mustangs while Carlos Flores and Colby Parton collected one shot each.

Peyton Voelker notched two attempts for the Patriots. Marc-Antoine Huzen and Alexander Knepper made two saves apiece.

The tied match did not last long into the second half as David Trevizo put the home side up by one with his 53rd minute strike.

Amann registered back-to-back narrow strikes shooting the first out high and heading the second just wide.

Escobar found the back of the net and the equalizer in the 83rdd minute on a failed clearance by the Patriot defense. The sophomore found the lucky spot at the top of the box and sent the ball flying into the bottom corner so fast that Knepper stood frozen on spot.

The forward sealed the game on a 87:01 on a header from Brandon Martinez-Trelles' cross. Escobar clinches nine goals on the year and stands level with Amann with four game-winners.

Midwestern State concluded the match with 22 shots, the second-most in a single match behind the 25 attempts against UT Tyler (10/20). Amann and Escobar put up seven tries each with Flores finishing with three. The Mustangs shook six shots on frame.

DBU ended the game seeing 12 shots with Voelker and Ethan Martinez combining for six. The Patriots landed five shots on goal. Knepper's effort between the posts saw four saves in 90 minutes while Huzen made four stops.

MSU returns to Stang Park for Senior Day on Wednesday, Nov. 3. The Mustangs face off against UT Permian Basin in the second to last Lone Star Conference match of the regular season. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas.
