Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Trevor Amann and Midwestern State went all out on senior night to tally a 5-1 score against UT Permain Basin with Amann landing his first Mustang hat-trick. With the victory, the Mustangs claimed their fourth Lone Star Conference title and tenth overall while spotting a perfect 7-0 LSC record.
With a win in the final game of the season against No. 22 West Texas A&M, MSU could be the first team to ever complete a LSC season without a loss. The team also landed a record eight assists, fourth-highest in Mustang history.
Mere Escobar started the scoring streak off with his tenth tally of 2021 at 6:47. Amann dropped a long ball over the half to
Carlos Flores at the top of the UTPB box who floated it to Escobar on the far side. The freshman finished coolly to put the home side up by one.
Amann's assist to Flores' goal was almost identical as the forward pushed along ball into the path of Flores, who found his sixth notch of the season. The 19th minute goal was the last of the half as MSU put up five shots versus the Falcons' two.
Amann started the second half with his first goal of the night at 48:56.
James Doyle's third assist was on a floating cross that connected with Amann's head and rose past Alfonso Aragon. Michael Nweke added one for the visitors from Matias Pereira's pass to see the scoreboard at 3-1 in favor of MSU.
The senior finished off the match with goals in the 69th and 82nd minute to gain eight points on three goals and two assists. This ties the Mustangs' all-time record for most points in a game, even with Sun Potter's feat against Texas Wesleyan on Oct. 5, 2006.
Brandon Martinez-Trelles and
Luis Pacheco registered assists for the forward's tallies.
The Mustangs knocked 16 shots on the match and UT Permian Basin put up 13.
Marc-Antoine Huzen gained three saves to total 41 and a 0.93 goals against average. Alfonso Aragon recorded six saves in 90 minutes.
Midwestern State concludes the 2021 regular season in a big match at No. 22 WT. The LSC battle is set for Saturday, Nov. 6 at The Pitch. Kick-off will commence at 2 p.m.
