Bourne grabs double-double in MSU's four set battle at StMU

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Lauryn Bourne collected her seventh double-double performance in Midwestern State's Friday night match at St. Mary's. Though the outside hitter punched ten kills and 16 digs, the Mustangs could not overcome the Rattlers and fell 1-3 (19-25, 20-25, 25-19, 12-25) after claiming the third set. MSU now sits at 3-18 on the season and 1-12 in Lone Star Conference play.

"Serve receive is key for us to be successful," said Head Coach Valerie Armstrong. "I thought we passed well at times and could find our middles in transition."

Bourne registered a .370 kill percent on the night and added a service ace for 12 points. Lissette Lefforge matched Bourne with ten kills and two block assists for 12 points. The senior added a controlled 0.318 attack percent to lead the Mustangs and grabbed her 12th ace of the year.

Alex Serna followed with seven smack downs in 20 attempts. The freshman also notched three blocks and a season-high three digs for an 8.5 point performance.

Kaitlyn Masseth and Regan Willms each notched 14 assists from the setting spot. Masseth collected a perfect serve and stamped season-highs in digs (12) and kills (2). Willms completed eight passes and one kill on the night.

MSU led the game with 47 team kills over StMU's 44. The visitor's attack errors and blocking lack were the biggest hurts in their chances to take the match. In their winning third set, Midwestern State dumped 17 kills and a 0.359 hitting percent with only three errors.

"When we found our middles, we scored and won the third set," said Armstrong.

Julia Aleman and Lindsey Ogle combined for 25 kills for the home side. Aleman conducted 14 points with two additional block assists while Olge tallied a solo and assist for 13.5 points.

Cali Nims and Alissa Tolbert gained seven service aces for the Rattlers. Nims caught eight digs and 15 assists and took seven kills and 11 digs.

"We will regroup and prep for tomorrow," said Armstrong.

Midwestern State rebounds in Austin, Texas, for their second match of the weekend. The Mustangs face St. Edward's at the Recreation & Convocation Center on Saturday, Oct. 30. The Lone Star Conference match commences at 1 p.m.
