MSU rockets past St. Mary's by 2-1, remain undefeated in LSC

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State rode Trevor Amann's 12th goal of the season and were beneficiaries of an own goal Wednesday night at Stang Park.

It was enough to lift the Mustangs to their seventh straight win in a 2-1 result over 24th-ranked St. Mary's.

Midwestern State (13-1) sits at the top of the Lone Star Conference table with an unblemished 5-0 mark.

Amann notched his 12th goal of the year in the 17th minute of play between the Mustangs and the Rattlers. Sebastian Kennedy began the play on a one-two with Julian Barajas to find space close to the St.  Mary's touch line. Kennedy whipped the ball in to connect with Amann's head and it sailed over Andre Schlaefli's outstretched arms to put the home side ahead.

Barajas collected his team leading seventh assist, while Kennedy claimed his first point of the season.

Barajas ignited the second goal at 25:41 on an intended flick to Amann. In the overshoot, a St. Mary's defender attempted to head the ball to Schlaefli and instead directed it into the net.

The Rattlers outshot MSU 6-5 in the first half, while Marc-Antoine Huzen and Schlaefli each recorded two saves in goal.

The visitors took the shutout away from Midwestern State in Liam Morrison's 62nd minute tally. The defender notched his second of the year with assists by Andrick Ferrer and former Mustang Erwin Regules.

MSU concluded the match with 14 shots and eight shots on goal. Amann led the offensive threat with six attempts. St. Mary's gained 13 shots, putting three on frame. Regules tallied four tries at goal. Huzen did not make any saves in the second half while Schlaefli finished with seven.

Midwestern State hits the road to take on Dallas Baptist Saturday night at Patriot Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
