WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State opened the premiere release of the Super Region Four rankings at No. 4 Monday afternoon as released by the NCAA Division II Football Committee.
The top seven teams in each region advance to the postseason commencing Nov. 20 at campus locations.
The NCAA Division II playoff field is released via a selection show on Sunday, Nov. 14.
Midwestern State has endured just one NCAA Division II loss this season falling 30-20 earlier this month at Central Washington.
If the playoffs started today, Augustana (S.D.) (7-1) holds the top spot and would receive an opening round bye while No. 2 Colorado School of Mines (8-1) hosted No. 7 Wayne State (Neb.) (6-2), No. 3 Central Washington (5-1) hosted No. 6 Bemidji State (Minn.) (6-2) and No. 4 Midwestern State (5-2) hosted No. 5 Angelo State (5-2).
In the second round, Augustana would play the MSU/Angelo State winner while the victors of the Colorado School of Mines/Wayne State and Central Washington/Bemidji State games would square off in the other second round game on Nov. 27.
The winners of the second round games advance to the national quarterfinal (super region final) on the weekend of Dec. 4. The four super region champs will be seeded by the committee for the national semifinal matchups set for Dec. 11.
The NCAA Division II Championship Game is set for Saturday, Dec. 18 at McKinney (Texas) ISD Stadium.
Colorado Mesa (5-1), Western Colorado (7-1) and Minnesota Duluth (6-2) fill out the rankings at Nos. 8, 9 and 10 respectively.
