Escobar, Amann lead No. 7 Midwestern State in eventful win at TAMIU

Box Score LAREDO, Texas -- Mere Escobar and Trevor Amann teamed up to put two past Texas A&M International in Midwestern State's sixth straight win in a 2-0 win Saturday night at Dustdevil Soccer Field.

MSU moved to 12-1, while improving to 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

Escobar had a chance to put MSU up early when Dylan Krufal took down Trevor Amann in the 15th minute of play. The sophomore's fifth penalty kick attempt was just wide of the goal to keep the score even.

Marc-Antoine Huzen collected three saves against the Dustdevil's four shots to keep the home side at bay. Nils Van Der Landen recorded two stops on teh Mustangs' six attempts at goal.

Escobar found the back of the net and his seventh goal of the year in the 53rd minute to put MSU up by one. Julian Barajas controlled the ball at the top of the home side's box and, with quick footwork, found his way between two defenders. The senior dished off to Escobar who sent a sliding defender flying before sending the ball home. Barajas clinches his sixth helper on the notch.

On Amann's 11th goal of the season, Escobar played a quick ball into the forward who snuck between two TAMIU defenders. Amann dribbled down the half and after being one-on-one with Van Der Landen, slipped the ball between the posts.

Searching for a goal, Texas A&M International's luck went downhill when Lukas Mansson booked his second yellow of the game in the 75th minute. The Dustdevils were down to ten men and 15 minutes to score.

Though the Mustangs put up nine shots in the second half, the team could not convert. Van Der Landen and Huzen each garnered two saves with Huzen totaling five in his seventh shutout. The senior faced five shots from TAMIU in the final period.

Amann and Escobar registered six and five of MSU's 15 shots while Kristian Colaci had three of nine for Texas A&M International.

Midwestern State returns to Stang Park in hopes of pushing their win streak to seven against St. Mary's. The battle for the top Lone Star Conference spot will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. for the Military Appreciation Day match.
