LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore
Terrell Wilson scored with efficiency, while freshman
Pierre Sanders nearly battled his way to a double-double Wednesday night at Rip Griffin Center.
That wasn't nearly enough for Midwestern State to give 14th-ranked Lubbock Christian its first loss of the season.
LCU senior Parker Hicks poured in 24 points, while sophomore Rowan Mackenzie pitched in 18 allowing the Chaps to pull away for an 83-60 win.
"We showed no fight in the second half tonight," MSU coach
Justin Leslie said. "When we made a run tonight, it was all about rebounding. They came out and controlled the boards and the game in the second half."
Lubbock Christian surged out to a 12-point lead in the first half, but the Mustangs used a plus-8 advantage on the boards to close to within one point at half.
The surge was short-lived as the Chaps controlled the boards in the second half beginning the half on a 12-2 run to take a 49-38 lead on one of Hicks' four 3-pointers.
Lubbock Christian would lead by as many as 25 points in the second half sending the Mustangs to their fourth straight loss (7-5).
Wilson paced the Mustangs with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting with three 3-pointers, while Sanders closed with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Lubbock Christian matched a season high with 12 3-pointers while shooting 53.3 percent from the floor.
Midwestern State closes its Lone Star Conference West Division series with Lubbock Christian Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
