Mustangs Clip Eagles in Season Opener

OKLAHOMA CITY – There is no better feeling than starting the season out with a W. The Mustangs defeat Oklahoma Christian by winning the first set, dropping the second and rebounding the last two sets to bring home the gold at Payne Athletic Center.

MSU started set one off right, gaining two points off of the Eagles' attack errors. The rest of the set was close with Oklahoma Christian changing the tide in the middle and edging a couple points ahead off of a few service aces. The mustangs bounced back with service aces from Autumn Roach and kills from Raven Presley, ending the set 25-23.

OC turned the tides in the second set and gained the 25-19 victory and drawing level with Midwestern State.

The Mustangs started the third set on a 8-0 run surged by two Jaycie Fuller service aces and back-to-back kills by Kaitlynn Stoker. The Eagles were able to gain some points, but it was too little too late. MSU routed Oklahoma Christian 25-16 and pushed the game to 2-1.

In what would come to be the final set of the match, Alyssa Hamlin walked away with four kills. Service errors on the home side and a seven point mid set run helped Midwestern State to the 25-11 win.

This is the second year in a row that MSU has won the season opener.
