OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Mustangs grab the sweep after being down two sets at Oklahoma Christian's Payne Athletic Center and setting the season on a winning streak.
MSU started off the first set hand-in-hand with the Eagles, fueled by a kill by redshirt sophomore outside hitter
Kaitlynn Stoker and helped with errors by the opposition. OCU's two five point runs in the first carried them to their 25-15 win.
The Mustangs bounced back in the second set with a kill from freshman redshirt middle blocker
Alyssa Estrada-Hamby who had 13 kills and a .385 hitting percentage for the night. MSU led for the set until the Eagles could tie it up at 22. The home team took the next three points to gain the two-set advantage.
The third set was a battle for both teams as Oklahoma Christian tried to seal the win. Senior right-side hitter
Raven Presley aided the Mustangs with five kills in the set and ended the night leading both teams with kills (21) and points (22).
MSU led the entire third set and a four-point run at the end gave the Mustangs the leg up.
Going into the fourth set, Midwestern State needed to win to have a chance at getting the W. Game dig leaders, senior defensive specialist
Jaycie Fuller (16) and freshman defensive specialist
Bella Muir (14) pushed the Mustang's tested the Eagles' offense. The set was back and forth until the end when MSU forced a fifth in 25-23.
Sophomore setter
Kaitlyn Masseth led the teams in assists (27). The final set was nailed in the Mustang's 5-0 run with senior middle blocker
Lissette Lefforge coming up big with assists and digs. She had 11 kills and .240 hitting percentage for the night.
This is the seventh time in MSU volleyball history that the team has started the season 2-0.
UP NEXT
The Mustangs open the floor at home versus Arkansas-Fort Smith at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Tuesday and Wednesday Feb. 2-3. Both games are slated for 6 p.m. start time.
