Mary leads the charge, Mustangs roll past MSU Denver, 6-1

Senior improves to 6-2 on season

WICHITA FALLS, Texas Juliette Mary led a rejuvenated Midwestern State squad to a 6-1 win over visiting MSU Denver on Thursday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.

The 15th ranked Mustangs, off since February 25, won the doubles point and five of six singles matches to improve to 6-3 on the season.

"This is a good win," MSU head coach Scott Linn said. "MSU Denver is a very good team. This is our highest quality win of the season."

With the Mustangs already leading 4-1, Mary slipped past Kayla Myburgh at number five, 7-5, 6-1. The senior improved to 6-2 on the season. 

Emilija Segetlija closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-2 decision on the number six line. 

Earlier in singles action, Ashley Ramirez used a strong start to down Helena Steenberg, 7-5, 6-3 while Emilija Visic earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at the number four spot.

After Lea Cizeron suffered a three set loss at number one, Casie Curry, ranked 43rd in the country, grinded out a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win at number two.

"Casie Curry showed great fight in her match tonight," Linn said. "She made adjustments in the third set. We asked her to do some things differently and she did."

The duo of Ramirez/Taylor Gray opened the match with a 6-3 win at number one and Cizeron/Curry secured the doubles point with a 6-2 victory against Brooklyn Ross/Mackenzie Hotan.
