WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State rode the hot hand of
Frances King to a 71-61 win over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The redshirt freshman stole the show on senior day, hitting a career-high five three-pointers, including a half court heave to end the first half, on the way to a personal best 23 points.Â
"She played well," interim coach
Christopher Reay said. "We have known she is capable of that as well. It's just a matter of her getting some confidence."
King's half court heave gave the Mustangs a 33-22 lead heading into the locker room.
"I looked down and knew it was going in,"
Frances King said. "I thought it was going to be a bank. But it was a swish."
Midwestern State built up a 15-point lead early in the third quarter before Oklahoma Christian came roaring back, outscoring the Mustangs 25-7 to take a three-point lead into the final frame.Â
Down 50-46 seconds into the final quarter, King hit one of her five triples to close the gap to a single point, then drilled another three to give the Mustangs the lead. Following a Megan Shelton three-pointer that briefly pushed OC back in front at 53-52, King hit yet another shot from deep, sparking an 18-6 run that put the game out of reach.
Senior
Mica Schneider flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. It was the second double-double of the season for the reigning Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week.Â
Katie Mayo scored a game-high 27 points for visiting Oklahoma Christian. The junior finished with 16 rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season.Â
After the game, the Mustangs honored Schneider,
