Mustangs beat Oklahoma Christian, 73-68

Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State continued its late season momentum by claiming a 73-68 win over Oklahoma Christian on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

D'Monta Harris battled through pregame emotion to score a game-high 20 points as all four seniors made a big contributions to help the Mustangs win a third consecutive game.

"It was difficult to mentally prepare after the tears came in the locker room," Harris said. "As a team, we've come together so well in the second part of the year. We are really clicking and that elevates my performance to the best I can to make sure we are successful. It means so much to me to have a group of guys in my class that care about one another and really value each other."

Midwestern State improved to 7-19 on the season while moving to 7-13 to force a three-way tie with Eastern New Mexico and Arkansas-Fort Smith for 13th. The Mustangs are just a game behind Cameron (8-12) for the final spot in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament.

"We are still fighting for a spot in the tournament, but we want to send these seniors out the right way," MSU Texas coach Justin Leslie said. "This was about honoring all of the effort the seniors have put into their careers. It's an emotional time for them and for their families. We just to go out and make sure there is a collective energy and attitude that shows we're all pulling in the same direction and that we are about the team. That is the best way we could send these seniors off."

The seniors delivered with Elijah Lee connected on three 3-pointers to finish with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Darius Thompson buried two triples to close out an 11-point, 6-assists performance. Ola Ayodele scored a single point, but grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

But the Mustangs received a lift from sophomore Trae Jones, who knocked down five 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 15 points.

Midwestern matched a season-high with 15 made 3-pointers as a team to outflank a very physical Oklahoma Christian side.

"We knew this game would be a slugfest. We knew we were the superior shooting team and the superior skill team on the offensive side of the ball," Leslie said. "We just needed find a way to make enough plays on the defensive end."

Dedrian Parmer, Jr. scored 18 points, while Will Lienhard delivered a monstrous line of 16 points, 19 rebounds and five assists to lead Oklahoma Christian while fell to 9-15 and 8-12.
