EDMOND, Okla. –
Midwestern State takes on Pittsburg State (Kan.) and Fort Hays State (Kan.) on Saturday at the Edmond Regional Festival III. The action gets underway at 10 a.m. at the Broncho Softball Stadium on the campus of Central Oklahoma.

LAST TIME OUT
Midwestern State earned their first win over a top 25 team in nearly two years, slipping past No. 22 Rogers State (Okla.), 5-4, on Friday afternoon at Tom Heath Field at Lawson Plaza. Kathryn Wells (1-2) tossed four innings of relief to earn the win and the Mustangs took advantage of four RSU errors. MSU Texas struck for two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. With runners on second and third and one out, Bailey Brenek reached on an error that allowed a run to score. The Mustangs then executed a double steal, with Brenek stealing second and Ashley Turner stealing home to make it 2-0.  The Mustangs added a run in the third on a Bailey Wamsley RBI groundout. Rogers State finally broke through against Wells in the sixth, plating two runs on three hits to cut the deficit to 3-2. Hayley Womack and Kimberli Presnell drove in runs for the Hillcats. Midwestern State answered with a two spot of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Marley Eller opened the inning with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Brooke Taylor and Carson Solis followed with run scoring hits to give the Mustangs a 5-2 lead. RSU made things interesting in the seventh. The Hillcats pushed across two runs and had the tying and go-ahead runners on base before Jacey Henry struck out Sabrina Anguiano to earn her first save of the season.

Central Oklahoma's Amelya Huggins and Aleah Bozarth each went deep twice to lift the Bronchos to a 7-2 win over visiting Midwestern State on Friday night at the Broncho Softball Stadium. After Midwestern State came up empty in the top of the first despite putting runners at second and third with no one out, Huggins belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning to hand UCO an early lead. Aleah Bozarth's two-run blast in the second made it 5-0 in favor of the Bronchos. Midwestern State scored their lone runs of the game in the fourth. Marley Eller and Kelsey Eropkin each delivered run scoring singles to cut the deficit to 5-2. Representing the tying run with two outs, Anna Williams grounded out to end the inning.  Huggins went deep again in the fifth, a two-run shot to straightaway centerfield that gave the Bronchos a 7-2 lead. Not to be outdone by her teammate, Bozarth connected for her second home run of the game in the sixth, a solo shot that made it 8-2. UCO added another run in the inning on an Allie Eicher RBI single. Hours after earning her first save of the season, Jacey Henry started in the circle for the Mustangs. Henry (1-3) suffered the loss after allowing five runs in two innings.

SERIES HISTORY

MSU Texas holds a slight 2-1 edge in the series against Pittsburg State. The Mustangs won the first two meetings before dropping a slugfest 14-10 in 2012. Midwestern State and Fort Hays State have each won a game in a series that has been dormant since 2012. Fort Hays State won the last meeting, 2-1.

BROOKE IS BRINGING IT
Brooke Taylor made her season debut against No. 22 Rogers State (Okla.) on Friday and played a big role in the Mustangs' upset win. The sophomore went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.

WELLS, WELLS, WELLS
Kathryn Wells hurled 4.0 innings of two run ball out of the bullpen to earn the win in relief as Midwestern State picked up their first win over a top 25 team in nearly two years with a 5-4 victory over No. 22 Rogers State (Okla.) on Friday afternoon.

STREAK SNAPPED PART I
Midwestern State's win over No. 22 Rogers State (Okla.) ended a 20-game losing streak to ranked opponents. Prior to Friday, the Mustangs' last win over a top 25 win came on March 9, 2018 against No. 11 Texas A&M-Commerce (5-4). Current senior Lauren Lindgren went 1-for-3 with an RBI and current assistant coach Amanda Thomas finished 1-for-3 with a run.

HENRY HURLS A GEM
Jacey Henry earned her first win of the season on Saturday, tossing a five hit shutout against Southwestern Oklahoma State. The right-hander navigated a Bulldogs lineup that had scored 19 runs in their previous three games. Henry, in her first season with MSU Texas after transferring from East Central (Okla.), featured a steady diet of drop balls to keep the visitors off balance.

STREAK SNAPPED PART II
Lauren Lindgren's 10-game hitting streak to start the season was snapped on Sunday against Regis (Colo.). The senior hit .455 (15-for-33) during the streak with one home run and eight RBI.

SCOUTING THE FIELD
Pittsburg State dropped to 3-13 on the season with a pair of losses on Friday at the Edmond Regional Festival III. The Gorillas lost to St. Mary's (Texas), 6-4 and Oklahoma Christian, 3-1. Pittsburg State has dropped eight straight. Makenzie Goswick is hitting a team best .404. Goswick, Kaity Kukowski, and Keelah Griffith have all driven in 10 runs while Mareika Turpen has knocked in nine. The Gorillas have struggled in the circle as a team, posting a 7.37 ERA.

Fort Hays State suffered a pair of losses to Lone Star Conference teams on Friday, losing to No. 21 Texas A&M-Commerce 8-1 and Cameron (Okla.), 1-0. The Tigers had won three games in a row prior to Friday. Terran Caldwell is off to a .400 start at the plate (12-for-30) while Kristen Reed has a team best 13 RBI. Michaelanne Nelson has appeared in nine games, making seven starts. The right-hander has pitched to a 2.60 ERA. Fort Hays State is looking for their first winning season since finishing 29-20 in 2014.

CATCHING UP WITH COACH RYAL
Mark Ryal begins his fourth season as head coach after serving in an interim capacity in 2017. Last season, Ryal guided the Mustangs to a 22-19 (13-17) record. The 22 wins marked the program's highest total since the 2016 season. Overall, the Dewar, Oklahoma native has compiled a 58-80 (32-58) record during his time in Wichita Falls.
