EDMOND, Okla. –Midwestern State begins play at the Edmond Region Festival III on Friday afternoon with a pair of games. The Mustangs will take on No. 22 Rogers State (Okla.) at 12 p.m. before wrapping up the day against Central Oklahoma at 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Abby Covington pitched a complete game and was backed by a pair of two run innings as the Regis Rangers beat the Midwestern State Mustangs, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the MSU Texas Invitational held at Mustangs Park. Midwestern State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Carson Solis RBI single. Regis quickly answered with two runs in the fourth. After Carly Beard drew a one out walk, Shayelyn Allen singled to center to put runners at first and second. Two batters later, Logan Taylor delivered a two-out RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. The Rangers scored a second run on the play when MSU Texas threw to second in an effort to nab Taylor, who was trying to advance on the original throw to the plate. Taylor beat the throw to second and Allen raced home from third to give the Rangers the lead. Lauren Lindgren nearly gave the Mustangs the lead in the bottom of the sixth but her deep drive to left with a runner on was caught just in front of the wall. The Rangers added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.

SERIES HISTORY

MSU Texas holds a 3-0 edge over Rogers State in a series that started in 2014. The Mustangs won the last meeting in 2016, 5-2. Against Central Oklahoma, the Mustangs are just 24-27 and have dropped six straight meetings. Midwestern State's last win in the series came on March 26, 2013, when the Mustangs downed No. 16 UCO in back-to-back games. This is the first meeting between the two sides since 2017.

HENRY HURLS A GEM
Jacey Henry earned her first win of the season on Saturday, tossing a five hit shutout against Southwestern Oklahoma State. The right-hander navigated a Bulldogs lineup that had scored 19 runs in their previous three games. Henry, in her first season with MSU Texas after transferring from East Central (Okla.), featured a steady diet of drop balls to keep the visitors off balance.
