NORMAN, Okla. – Midwestern State dropped a back and forth match to Oklahoma Baptist, 4-3, on Friday night at the Oklahoma University Outdoor Tennis Complex.
The match came down to No. 1 singles where No. 22 Bruno Suiama downed No. 5
Angel Palacios, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in a battle between nationally ranked players.
"Men played better today, just not consistent enough to beat an extremely motivated OBU team," MSU Texas head coach
Scott Linn said. "They finished stronger than we did in singles and doubles."
The Bison claimed the doubles point when Kaey-Den Tan/Matias Le Fort defeated
Alexandre Crepy/
Abhiram Venkatachalam 6-4. The teams had split the first two doubles matches.
The Mustangs opened singles play with a win by freshman
Alexandre Crepy at No. 6 before
Ben Westwick handed the Maroon and Gold their first lead of the night with a straight set win at No. 2.
"Good news, Alexandre (Crepy) bounces back from a tough loss yesterday to clinch our first singles points," Linn said. "Ben (Westwick) and Alex (Martinez Roca) played solid singles from start to finish."
Following Aaron Brewer's 6-1, 6-3 win against
Abhiram Venkatachalam at No. 5 that evened the match at 2-2, Alex Martinex Roca dominated Gianluca Galdi in a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3.
MSU Texas then had two chances to clinch the win, but the Bison collected victories at No. 4 and No. 1
"Once we all get on the same page as competitors, we will be a very difficult team to beat," Linn said. "My plan is that starts on Saturday."
