PUEBLO, Colorado -- The #14 ranked Midwestern State Mustangs completed its season opening week in style, using an 89
th minute goal from
Hikaruhito Meike to upend Colorado State – Pueblo, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Rawlings Sports Complex.
Meike's goal, his first of the season, came off a perfect pass from
Carlos Flores.
"We had a chance to set some things up late following a foul," Midwestern State Head Coach
Michael Meachum said. We got a lot of bodies into the box and eventually the ball came to Meike and he finished."
MSU's first goal came on a ThunderWolves own goal in the 21st minute. Colorado State - Pueblo tied the game in the 35th minute and the game stayed 1-1 until Meike's game-winner.
"It's super important to come away with a win against a region opponent. Especially with us playing a man down for 20 minutes following the ejection of
Patrick Fitzgerald. Today's victory shows a lot, and displays our senior leadership," Meachum added.
MATCH NOTES
- The win was the Mustangs second straight over a school from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). MSU defeated Dixie State, 2-0, on September 6.
- Midwestern State is 2-0 for the third straight season
