WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State opens the 2019 season against Dixie State on Thursday night at Stang Park in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Mustangs and Trailblazers kick off at 7 p.m.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This is the first meeting between Midwestern State and Dixie State.
 
SEASON OPENERS
Midwestern State is 35-9-3 all-time in season openers. Since becoming a Division II University in 1997, the Mustangs are 17-4-1 in season openers.
 
IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Mustangs open the 2019 season ranked #14 in the United Soccer Coaches' Preseason Poll. MSU has appeared in the last 52 USC rankings as a ranked side dating back to the 2014 season and the Mustangs have received votes in the last 64 rankings dating back to 2013.
 
A MINUTE WITH MEACHUM
Michael Meachum begins his second season as Head Coach at Midwestern State. The former long-time assistant under the legendary Doug Elder posted a 16-1-3 mark in his first season at the helm. In 2018, he guided MSU to a sixth-straight NCAA Postseason appearance. The Mustangs also captured the Heartland Conference championship.
 
SCOUTING THE TRAILBLAZERS
Senior Moises Medina leads a Dixie State squad that finished 7-9-2 last season. The senior scored a team-high 5 goals in 2018. The 2019 campaign marks the final one for Dixie State as a Division II institution. The University will move up to Division I in 2020 to compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).  
 
UP NEXT
Midwestern State travels to Pueblo, Colorado on Sunday, September 8 to battle Colorado State – Pueblo. The Mustangs and ThunderWolves kick off at 1 p.m. at the Rawlings Sports Complex.
