Mustangs give No. 19 Dallas Baptist quite a scare

DALLAS, Texas - The Midwestern State Mustangs (1-5-1, 0-2) nearly pulled off the upset over the No. 19 ranked Dallas Baptist Patriots (5-0-1, 2-0) on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-2 at the Patriot Soccer Field.

"Overall it was a good fight," MSU coach Ryan Spence said. "We battled against the No. 19 team in the nation and were able to push across two goals."

After Dallas Baptist grabbed a 1-0 lead with a 9th minute tally, Imani Morlock evened the score with a goal just :25 seconds later. The goal, Morlock's first of the season, came from 40-yards out after goalkeeper Hope Koym had strayed too far from the net.

"Great vision from Morlock to see the keeper out of position and finish," Spence said.

MSU took their only lead of the contest in the 28th minute on a Sara Machado goal but DBU tied the game at 2-2 in the 32nd minute.

The Patriots scored the decisive goal early in the second half, as Kaci Parks notched her second goal of the season in the 49th minute.

MSU has now lost four straight.

"Keeping our spirits up is the main priority after coming close in each of our last two matches against highly ranked regional opponents," Spence said.

MATCH NOTES
