SAN ANGELO, Texas -- No. 14 Midwestern State averted a shutout scoring in the final two minutes in a 28-6 Lone Star Conference loss to Angelo State Saturday night at LeGrand Stadium.

Triston Williams connected on a 9-yard touchdown to
Kylan Harrison with 1:56 to play as one of the offensive highlights for the Mustangs.
The Angelo State defense limited Midwestern to 214 total yards of offense which were the fewest for the program since Colorado State-Pueblo held the Mustangs to 183 total yards in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Division II playoffs.
The Rams were especially tough against the run restricting MSU Texas -3 yards on 20 attempts which is just the second time the Mustangs were limited to negative rushing yardage. It was the fewest yards since Texas A&M-Kingsville forced Midwestern to a -26 yards in 1997.
Senior
Xavier Land produced his third career 100-yard receiving going for a career-high 11 catches for 114 yards.
Angelo State quarterback Payne Sullins had a hand in each of the Rams' four scores with one coming in each quarter.
Sullins, who passed for 257 yards and three touchdowns, connected with Austin Landry for 21-yard TD in the first quarter before hitting Keke Chism for a pair of second-half touchdowns. He also had a 1-yard rushing score in the second quarter.
The Midwestern State defense yielded 358 yards to the Rams, but forced three turnovers including interceptions by
Matthew Long and
Darius Houston and a forced fumble and a recovery by redshirt-freshman
Michael McDonald.
Sophomore defensive end
Melik Owens continued to shine for MSU Texas logging three tackles for loss and two sacks.
Midwestern State takes on Eastern New Mexico Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
