WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Sebastian Venegas scored twice in the second half, and
Taylor Lampe tied the Midwestern State (5-1, 1-0) record for career shutouts in a 3-0 win over Oklahoma Christian (3-3, 0-1) on Thursday night at Stang Park.
"I thought the boys were relentless tonight," said Head Coach
Michael Meachum.
Venegas' first tally of the night came in the 57th minute. The redshirt-junior scored from 30-yards out with a left foot strike into the top left-corner of the net.
"He's done that for three years in a row now," added Coach Meachum. "He did it at Dallas Baptist, he did it to Oklahoma Christian last year up there, and then tonight. He's got one of the best left foots in the country."
Venegas scored his second goal of the night off a free kick in the 64th minute after bending a 20-yard strike past the leaping try of Anthony Trabichet.
Lampe's 21st career shutout moved him into a tie with Raul Herrera for the Midwestern State record. The junior goalkeeper faced just four shots, and did not have to make a save in earning his fifth victory of the season.
MSU broke a scoreless tie right before the half when
Guilherme Martins Fao blasted home a rebound from 16-yards out in the 40th minute.
