Taylor Lampe broke the program record for most career shutouts in program history.
"It's a great rivalry. It means something to the group to get this win," MSU coach
Michael Meachum said. "As for Lampe, it's a huge accomplishment for him, his family, and the program."
MSU opened the scoring in the 20th minute when defender
Adam Conway headed in a
Sebastian Venegas corner kick. The goal was Conway's team leading third of the season.
The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the visitors, 6-1.
Just four minutes into the second half, MSU Texas scored again.
Juan Ramirez saw his penalty kick stopped, but the senior tucked in the rebound to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.
Trevor Amann pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 72nd minute, finishing a
Carlos Flores touch inside the box.
Lampe improved to 6-1 on the season with five shutouts. The junior made five saves, all in the second half.
"It's a huge honor to break the record set by Raul Herrera but it's not just me," Lampe said. "It's a credit to all the great defensive players I played with over the years."
