Mustangs sweeps UTPB

THE RUNDOWN
ODESSA, Texas – With a quick turnaround after suffering a 4-3 loss to No. 21-ranked Angelo State, Midwestern State responded in dominant fashion. The 34th-ranked Mustangs swept UT Permian Basin, 7-0, on Friday at Permian High School.

Of the 15 sets played between singles and doubles, the Falcons managed to win three games in only one match. The Maroon and Gold claimed straight-set victories on all six singles courts to remove the sting from last night's loss.

MSU Texas completed its first doubles sweep since March 9 against CSU-Pueblo.

The tandem of Ashley Ramirez and Bianca Duff registered their first victory together this spring, ousting Maria Briones and Stephanie Prats, 6-1, at the No. 1 flight.

MSU Texas' duo of Greta Lazzarotto and Casie Curry collected the doubles point in a 6-2 rout over Madison Hoelting and Amelie Saint-Dizier at the No. 2 line. Lazzarotto is now five combined wins away from breaking Lacey Wuthrich's all-time record.

The No. 3 flight of Lea Cizeron and Juliette Mary topped Jessica Madamba and Melissa Ariza Gonzalez, 6-2, to complete the sweep.

With all the momentum, the Maroon and Gold collected its second singles sweep of the season to finish off the Falcons.

Duff expanded the lead to 2-0, defeating Hoelting, 6-1, 6-0, to improve to 3-0 at the No. 1 line while Ramirez claimed her third-straight win, downing Briones, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4.

Lazzarotto clinched the win and moved into sole possession of third-place on the career wins list with her 134th victory. The Italian swept Saint-Dizeier, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3.

Cizeron and Mary finished back-to-back, both winning 6-2, 6-2 decisions against Gonzalez and Julia Ramalho at the Nos. 2 & 5 flights, respectively.

Curry completed the sweep to improve to 9-1 on the year in singles. The hometown kid cruised through Paulina Obreque, 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 6 line to finish off the Falcons.
