GAME ONE
Muniz fanned six of the first seven batters in the opener to set the tone for the Maroon and Gold. The Seabrook, Texas, native allowed one run on three hits and two walks while matching a career best with 13 strikeouts to improve to 10-11 on the year.
Senior
Carli Woolsey launched her team-leading 13
th round-tripper of the season to lead off the bottom of the second. Two batters later, Wamsley mashed her first dinger since Feb. 9 against Northwest Missouri State to stake MSU Texas to a 2-0 lead.
The Mustangs extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore
Marley Eller poked a line drive single into center to score Muniz from third.
Wamsley jumped the yard for the second time on a two-run shot that hooked the foul pole in the bottom of the sixth. Junior
Kelsey Eropkin lined a single through the left-side of the infield and stole second to move into scoring position. The Mustangs backstop dug in and hammered Kimberly Herron's 2-1 offering on a liner to left to stretch the lead to 5-0.
The Greyhounds cracked the scoring column in the top of the seventh to break up Muniz's shutout. Emma Gary drove a pinch-hit double to the left-center alley to lead off the inning before Hanna Gary followed with a single to right to move runners on the corners with no outs. Lauren Likes lifted a sacrifice fly to center before Muniz fanned Karina Moreno on four pitches to close the contest.
GAME TWO
After going nearly three years without a go-ahead walk-off win, the Mustangs have now accomplished the feat twice in their last three home games.
Scoreless in the bottom of the eighth inning, senior
Jenna Hering battled back from on 0-2 count to walk to lead off the frame before moving up to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Caycee Griffin. Following a strikeout, Hering dashed to third on a wild pitch.
With two outs, senior
Tucker Caraway legged out an infield single on a high chopper to shortstop to break the scoreless draw.
In what will likely go down as her final collegiate start in the circle, Lancaster was nearly unhittable. The Idabel, Okla., native hurled her fourth shutout of the season to improve to 10-6, allowing just one hit in 8.0 innings of work. She matched a career-high 10 strikeouts, throwing 74 of 105 pitches for strikes.
Following a leadoff walk, Lancaster retired 10-in-a-row before giving up her second walk of the day with one out in the fourth. The right-hander kept ENMU out of the hit column for the first six frames before a single through the left-side of the infield from Parker Smith broke up her no-hit bid.
The Greyhounds Hanna Gary matched Lancaster for the majority of the afternoon. The ENMU starter gave up three hits and two walks in 7.2 innings before taking the loss in the eighth.
ENMU threatened to break the scoring seal in the top of the seventh after a leadoff error. Elysa Rodriguez reached and moved into scoring position on a high throw from short. A wild pitch put the ENMU shortstop at third with no outs.
Lancaster weaved her way out of trouble, striking out Samantha Brockman and Likes to bookend an infield popup to Jennifer McElroy.
MSU was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh before manufacturing the game-winning run in the eighth.
