Lazzarotto goes out on top with match-clinching win on Senior Day

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – Senior Greta Lazzarotto celebrated Senior Day by clinching No. 23 Midwestern State's 4-3 win over No. 33 Tarleton State Saturday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.

The Mustangs improved to 17-5 with their eighth consecutive win, going to 4-1 in Lone Star Conference play.

A day after defeating the nation's No. 2-ranked singles player, Lazzarotto swept Neetika Sud in the third set -- 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 -- to secure the win at 4-1. The Mustangs all-time wins leader extended her lead with the 143rd victory of her career.

Freshman Casie Curry ran her winning streak to eight with a straight-sets win against Shelby Fillingame -- 6-0, 6-1. Curry, ranked 60th in the lastest ITA singles rankings, improved to 11-0 at the No. 6 line where she hasn't dropped a set all season.

Junior Bianca Duff seized momentum taking a 7-4 tiebreaker over Tarleton State's Alicia Barbaroux at No. 1, then finished off the match claiming the second set -- 6-3 -- to stretch the MSU lead to 3-0.

With the match decided, the Texans claimed wins at third, fourth and fifth lines to narrow the margin.

The Mustangs continued a successful trend by claiming the doubles point for the seventh time in the last eight matches. MSU has won each of the 13 matches in which it claimed the point this season.

Cizeron and Mary defeated Ulander and Fillingame -- 6-2 -- at No. 3 before Ramirez and Duff topped Barbaroux and Sud -- 6-2 -- at No. 1.
