Mustangs dominate Dallas Baptist in sweep

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 21 Midwestern State dropped just five games in singles to sweep Dallas Baptist on Friday at the MSU Tennis Center. The Mustangs completed their fifth, 7-0 sweep of the season.
 
MSU grabbed the early momentum in doubles and never looked back, improving to 12-1 when winning the doubles competition.
 
Angel Palacios and Denney Norrie grabbed the first win of the afternoon, besting Andrew Hallowell Jr. and Riley Smith, 6-1, at the No. 3 flight. The duo of Nolan McCaig and Dillon Pineda grabbed a 6-4 win over Andre Edwards and Grant McKenzie at the No. 2 flight to clinch the point.
 
The 15th-ranked pair of Ben Westwick and Alberto Diaz completed the sweep, topping Gabe Garrido and Josh Williams, 7-5, at the No. 1 line.
 
The Maroon and Gold rattled off straight-set wins on all six courts in dominating fashion, dropping just five games – all in the first set – to finish off the Patriots.
 
McCaig extended the advantage to 2-0 with a clean sweep of Smith, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 line before sophomore Alex Martinez Roca stretched the advantage to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Garrido at No. 2.
 
Pineda clinched the win for the Mustangs, defeating Williams, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2.
 
Second-ranked Angel Palacios climbed closer to the century mark with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over McKenzie at No. 1.
 
Westwick and Diaz rolled Edwards and Delao, at the Nos. 6 & 5 flights, respectively, to finish off the sweep.
