WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 14 Midwestern State proved too much for Colorado State-Pueblo in a 7-0 rout on Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center. The Mustangs continue the hot-start to open the season, improving to 5-0 for the fifth time in program history and first since the 2014 team started 8-0.
MSU made quick work of the Thunderwolves in doubles. CSUP played a man down and was unable to field a team at the No. 3 line to give the Mustangs the forfeit win.
Maddy Coffman and
Casie Curry blasted Nia Matthews and Kali Hamilton, 6-1, at the No. 1 line before the duo of
Bianca Duff and
Greta Lazzarotto coasted to a 6-1 win over Emilty Sproston and Sarah Megilligan at No. 2.
Lazzarotto registered her 77
th career doubles win, moving within one of Brooke Gray's program record of 78 set from 2000-03.
In singles, juniors
Lea Cizeron and
Juliette Mary collected a pair of dominant singles wins to clinch the match for the Mustangs.
Cizeron downed Hamilton, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 just seconds before Mary swept Megilligan, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 to secure the fifth-straight win for MSU Texas.
Lazzarotto topped Sproston, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 to remain unbeaten this spring
Curry earned a straight-set win against Katherine Ambrose, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 for her second win in as many days.
Duff erased a first set tiebreaker loss to Matthews, storming back for a 6-7 (3), 7-5, 10-4 win in a super-set tiebreaker to complete the sweep for the Maroon and Gold.
