No. 10 UIndy edges Mustangs, 4-2

SAN ANTONIO -- Senior Greta Lazzarotto claimed her 126th combined win, while freshman Casie Curry took her third consecutive singles win in a close 4-2 loss to No. 10 Indianapolis Saturday afternoon at Northside Tennis Center.

Lazzarotto rolled to a straight-set (6-2, 6-2) win over Maja Pindelska at No. 4 singles to even match 2-all after Curry wasted little time to beat Ana Valiaeva to come off the courts first from the No. 6 line.

Curry has won each set since being moved into the lineup last weekend including a victory on the No. 5 line, while Lazzarotto remained perfect in her six singles matches this season -- five in straight sets -- and is now 12 wins shy of the program's career mark of 138 win set by Lacey Wuthrich from 2002-05. Lazzarotto is one singles win away from her 50.

UIndy (12-0) proved too strong at the top of the order where the Greyhounds boasts national rankings at the first two singles and doubles positions.

The No. 4-ranked duo of Nikol Alexeeva and Anna Novikova clinched the doubles point at the top line with a 6-3 win over Maddy Coffman and Curry after the No. 16-ranked pair of Pindelska and Hanna Volikova beat Lazzarotto and Bianca Duff 6-2 at No. 2.

Midwestern State's Lea Cizeron and Juliette Mary held a 5-4 edge at No. 3 when the match was abandoned.

Volikova, ranked No. 4 nationally in singles, pushed the Greyhounds' lead to 2-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Coffman at No. 1, while the 19th-ranked Alexeeva beat Duff -- 7-5, 6-4 -- at No. 2.

Novikova finished the match with a clinching 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 over Cizeron.

Mary stood a point away from another Midwestern State point leading Chloe Weihs – 7-6 (2), 5-4 – at No. 5 when the match ended.
