Coffman breaks No. 1 doubles record as @MSUMustangs cruise to 4-0

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Senior Maddy Coffman became the winningest No. 1 doubles player in program history, passing her sister Taylor with 37th career victory at the top flight as Midwestern State rolled Colorado Mesa, 6-1, and Colorado Mesa, 4-0.
 
MSU Texas improves to 4-0 on the season.
 
The Mustangs combined for a 6-0 day in doubles and an 8-1 performance in doubles to complete the sweep.
 
Coffman partnered with freshman Casie Curry in both matches at the No. 1 flight to break the school record, improving to 37-10 at the top flight. The duo bested Kristen Kirby and Emily Beckley in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2), to secure the doubles point against CMU before completing the doubles sweep in a 6-4 win against Tabitha Porter and Helena Steenberg in the match with Metro State.
 
The Flower Mound native earned her third win over a ranked opponent to start the season, toppling No. 24 Porter, 7-5, 6-3, at the No. 1 singles flight to clinch the match against the Roadrunners.
 
Senior Greta Lazzarotto and junior Bianca Duff combined for a 4-0 record in both singles and doubles for a perfect afternoon. The doubles team rattled off a 6-2 win in the opening match against Taylor Hershey and Rebecca Osterberg before sweeping Ainsley Winterrowd and Alex Pessoa, 6-0.
 
Lazzarotto put the Maroon and Gold on top 3-0 in both matches with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Osterberg at the No. 3 line and a 6-3, 6-2 win over Steenberg at No. 4.
 
Duff claimed her second singles win at the No. 1 flight, knocking off Kirby, 7-5, 7-5, at the No. 1 line to expand the MSU Texas lead to 5-0. The Geelong, Australia, native blasted Pessoa, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 to set the tone in singles play for the Mustangs, 2-0.
 
Juniors Lea Cizeron and Juliette Mary along with Coffman and Curry, posted a 3-0 record on the afternoon, getting straight-set wins before the final match was decided.
 
Junior Emilija Segetlija made her spring debut, suffering a three-set loss in a super-set tiebreaker at the No. 5 line against the Mavericks.
