WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State strung together a perfect record in doubles and a 9-1 record in singles to defeat Colorado Mesa, 7-0, and Metro State, 4-1, on Friday at the MSU Tennis Center.
 
The Mustangs improved to 6-0 all-time against the Mavericks before moving to 12-0 against the Roadrunners, a team they last saw in the NCAA South Central Regional a season ago.
 
Junior Angel Palacios and sophomores Nolan McCaig and Alex Martinez Roca all went a perfect 4-0 on the afternoon to lead MSU Texas. Senior Dillon Pineda and junior Alberto Diaz added three wins while junior Denney Norrie and freshman Ben Westwick posted a 2-0 mark.
 
Palacios served up a pair of winners at the No. 1 singles flight to move up to 5-0 on the season. The Piedras Negras native topped Max Lindqvist of CMU, 6-4, 6-4, to clinch the day's first match. The junior erased a first-set deficit in a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2) thriller over Metro State's Joey Tscherne.
 
McCaig earned two wins in tiebreakers to improve to 4-1 in singles on the season. The Modesto, Calif., native won a super-set tiebreaker against CMU's Moises Cure, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-4, before clinching the nightcap with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win against Alejandro Martinez-Morilla.
 
Martinez Roca won the first singles match off in both matches to push the MSU Texas lead to 2-0. The Castelldefels, Spain, native topped Lucas Martin, 6-3, 6-0, in the first match and Mateo Besada, 6-3, 6-4, in the nightcap.
 
In doubles, Palacios and Norrie paired up in the first match to defeat Lindqvist and Christian Albrechtsen, 6-1. Palacios and Martinez Roca bested Kacey Walisundara and Daniel Llorente, 6-2, in the finale for the first doubles win of the night.
 
The eighth-ranked duo of Westwick and Diaz secured a pair of wins in their first action together this spring. They defeated Martin and Alain de la Bastide, 6-4, and Tscherne and Mateo Besada, 6-3.
