THE RUNDOWN
STEPHENVILLE, Texas – After clubbing several three-run home runs in yesterday's doubleheader sweep, Tarleton State decided to play small ball in the series finale. The TexAnns reached on five bunt singles in a 12-hit barrage to complete the sweep with a 6-1 win over Midwestern State Saturday at the Texan Softball Complex.
Junior
Kelsey Eropkin went 2-for-3 at the plate while junior
Lauren Lindgren plated senior
Tucker Caraway for the Mustangs first run of the series.
Senior
Misty Muniz was tagged with the loss to fall to 7-9 on the year. The Seabrook, Texas, native allowed six runs on 10 hits with a walk and no strikeouts over 4.0 innings of work before handing the ball off to
Abbie Lancaster in the fifth.
Lancaster pitched well over the final two frames, scattering two hits to keep TSU off the scoreboard.
MSU Texas briefly grabbed the lead in the top of the third. Caraway deposited a one-out double to right and moved up to third on a fly ball from freshman
Ashley Turner. Lindgren beat the throw to first on a single to shortstop to stake the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage.
The wheels fell off for the Maroon and Gold shortly thereafter. The TexAnns opened their half of the inning with three-straight bunts resulting in two singles and a popup. With one out, TSU hit five-straight singles to take a 5-1 lead before a sacrifice bunt moved two runners into scoring position. An infield single from Jessica Lee scratched across the final run of the contest before the inning mercifully came to a close on a fly out to center.
The Mustangs were unable to chip into the lead, resulting in their fourth-straight loss and 12th-consecutive on the road.
