Mustangs knock off No. 2 Tyler JC, 4-3

THE RUNDOWN
TYLER, Texas – Midwestern State took down the nation's No. 2-ranked junior college program behind a 4-3 win on Friday at the Murphy Tennis Center. The 33rd-ranked Mustangs secured their second win over TJC in program history to improve to 7-2.
 
MSU erased a 3-1 deficit in singles to complete the comeback.
 
The Maroon and Gold picked up a win despite dropping the doubles point for the third-straight match. Friday marked the first time the Mustangs rallied for a win in 2019 after falling in a 1-0 hole.
 
The 10th-ranked tandem of Maddy Coffman and Ashley Ramirez dropped their first match this season, falling to Maria Genovese and Lucie Devier, 6-2, at the No. 1 line.
 
Lea Cizeron and Juliette Mary evened the doubles matchup behind a 6-3 win over Veronica Gallardo and Julia Khmaula at the No. 3 line.
 
The 42nd-ranked pair of Bianca Duff and Greta Lazzarotto suffered their fourth-straight loss at the No. 2 line. Helena Jansen and Summer Yardley outlasted the duo, 6-4, to stake the Apaches a 1-0 advantage.
 
MSU claimed a win by default at the No. 6 flight to pull even at 1-1, but quickly faced match point after losses at the Nos. 3 and 1 lines.
 
Freshman Casie Curry started the comeback for the Maroon and Gold with her sixth-straight win. The Wichita Falls product rattled off a 6-1, 6-3 win against 13th-ranked (NJCAA) Khamula at the No. 4 line.
 
Moved up to the No. 2 line, Cizeron fought off 10th-ranked Yardley, 6-4, 7-6, to even the match at 3-3. The Saint Etienne, France, native improved to 4-0 playing No. 2 this spring.
 
Mary clinched the comeback for the Mustangs in dominant fashion, rolling Gallardo, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5.
