Storylines
First Serve
Midwestern State treks to UT Tyler and Tyler JC on Thursday and Friday before turning north to Bolivar, Mo., for a Saturday showdown against Southwest Baptist. MSU Texas returns to the MSU Tennis Center on Sunday to meet Northwest Missouri State.

Last Time Out
MSU Texas pulled off its first top-five upset, taking down fourth-ranked West Florida, 4-3, in San Antonio. Junior Angel Palacios recorded a pair of straight-set singles wins against top-10 opponents at the No. 1 flight to improve to 9-0.

Linn Nears Win No. 300 in the Maroon and Gold
Scott Linn enters his ninth season at the helm of the men's and women's tennis programs, needing 13 wins for his 300th overall win at MSU Texas. The East Central graduate has posted a 287-127 (.693) combined record with the Mustangs, including a 139-63 (.688) mark with the men's program. He needs 220 wins to match Larry Wiggins (1995-2010) program record of 507.

Mustangs Up One in ITA Poll
After knocking off a pair of top 10 foes, including the team's first win against a top five opponent, Midwestern State moved up one spot to No. 16 in the Oracle/ITA National Team Rankings on Wednesday.

Junior Angel Palacios jumped from unranked to No. 5 nationally in singles after a 9-0 start to the season. Palacios picked up wins against the Nos. 5, 8 and 31 players last weekend to remain unbeaten at the top flight. The Piedras Negras native is the highest ranked individual for the Maroon and Gold since Ramon Toyos started the 2017 campaign at No. 5.

Sophomore Alberto Diaz and freshman Ben Westwick climbed from No. 8 to No. 3 in the doubles rankings following a 4-1 start at the No. 1 flight. The tandem locked up an upset of Indianapolis' sixth-ranked duo of Dario Huber and Matej Kostadinov, 6-3, on Friday.

The pair became the first MSU Texas team to earn a top-3 ranking since Zac Dillard and Brett Emerson opened the 2007 season at No. 2.

Hot Starts
With an 8-1 record, the Mustangs are off to their best start since opening the 2011 season with a 9-1 record.

MSU Texas owns a 37-13 mark in singles and an 18-7 record in doubles.
