Lions run away from @MWSU_MBB

THE RUNDOWN
COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M-Commerce raced out to an early lead and never looked back, running away with an 89-63 win over Midwestern State on Saturday at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
 
The Lions led by as many as 29 in the first half and entered halftime up 52-26 en-route to the victory.
 
The Mustangs suffered their seventh-straight loss and eighth-consecutive loss on the road to fall to 6-17 overall and 2-11 in Lone Star Conference action.
 
Five players scored in double-figures for the Lions, led by Trey Conrod with a game-high 20, going 7-of-13 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Willie Rooks and Deonta Terrell each poured in 16 while Srdan Budimir and Rodney Brown added 11.
 
JaJuan Starks logged his 17th game in double-figures, dropping 19 points. Tayvion Johnson recorded his second career game in double figures, adding 12, while Gilbert Thomas, Jr., narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
 
The Maroon and Gold trimmed the deficit to 17 on a layup from Johnson at the 10:59 mark but were never able to pull closer as the Lions kept the Mustangs from storming back.
 
GAME NOTES
- Midwestern State suffered its seventh-straight loss and eighth-straight loss on the road
- MSU Texas leads the all-time series with Texas A&M-Commerce, 55-37, despite the Lions winning seven-straight, including eight-straight in Commerce
- Saturday marked the first time this season the Mustangs have not held a lead at any point in the contest
- The Mustangs are riding the first seven-game losing streak since the 1988-89 season from Jan. 4-21, 1989
- The 89 points allowed were the second-most surrendered this season
- Senior JaJuan Starks posted his 17th game in double-figures, going for a team-high 17
- Freshman Tayvion Johnson recorded his second game in double figures, scoring 12
