THE RUNDOWN
ODESSA, Texas – Junior Liz Cathcart scored 13 points for her third-straight outing in double figures and sophomore Kityana Diaz also added 13 to lift Midwestern State to a 63-52 win against UT Permian Basin on Saturday at the Falcon Dome.
 
Cathcart went 6-of-9 from the field and matched the team lead with four rebounds. The Spring Branch native recorded her fifth game with at least 10 points in the last six contests.
 
Diaz broke double figures for the first time in the last eight games. The Amarillo product buried a pair of 3-pointers to post her eighth game with double-digit points.
 
Despite taking the loss, UTPB's Khali Pippins-Tryon went for 31 points, going 14-of-22 from the field with three 3-pointers and seven rebounds.
 
MSU Texas shot 50.0 percent from the floor, going 26-of-52 to lead wire-to-wire, even with being outrebounded by a season-high 19 (43-24).
 
The Falcons only managed nine second chance points despite 19 offensive rebounds.
 
GAME NOTES
- Midwestern State improved to 9-2 all-time against UT Permian Basin
- MSU Texas snapped a five-game road losing streak to move to 2-11 away from D.L. Ligon Coliseum and 2-10 in true road games
- The Mustangs shot 50.0 percent or better for the fifth time this season
- UTPB outrebounded the Maroon and Gold 43-24
- The 19-point differential in rebounds was the worst by the Mustangs this season
- Junior Liz Cathcart logged her 12th game in double figures and fifth time in the last six games with a team-high 13
- Sophomore Kityana Diaz snapped a seven-game stretch without scoring in double figures to match Cathcart for the team lead
- With two blocks, sophomore Hannah Reynolds is one away from Rulinda Vogtsberger for second on the single-season list and three away from Shambreka Jones' single-season record of 58
